When you are pregnant, is it okay to take Maalox or some type of heartburn and bloating relief tablet?
my friend is not exactly sure if she is pregnant and she won’t be able to know for a few days but she is having gas problems of all kinds and wants to know if it is safe to take acid relief tablets like Maalox to relief the pain. Does anybody know?

Tums or Malox should be just fine. I eat tums like they are going out of style. There are however, certain things that can be harmful in the first trimester as compared to later on in the pregnancy. But I am almost certain Tum’s is not one of them. However, she may want to get into the Doctor’s asap….just to make sure things are going well. I don’t remember having gas so early????

The only time I ever had heartburn in my life is when I was pregnant. I used a tsp. of baking soda in a glass of water….worked instantly and no harm to baby.

i wouldnt take advice from people on here about something like that. call an advice nurse to be sure. if she is pregnant, this early in the pregnancy she is very sensitive. i wouldnt take the chance. make the call, and be safe with the decision.

I think so but I would ask a doctor first not the ppl here. Why ask some kid who knows nothing when you could call a pharmacist or doctor?.

Tell her it is okay to take Tums, Rolaids for heartburn and gas. If she is pregnant, tell her congrats and tell her Tums and Rolaids will be her friends throughout her pregnancy. Her OB will tell her that they are good sources of calcium which she will need alot her during pregnancy

My obgyn recommended liquid Maalox and I slept with a bottle of it on my bedside table for about 7 months of my pregnancy. I had terrible heartburn every single night and it worked great.

I was also going to suggest baking soda and water, but I see Linda already did. I’m almost positive my midwife said to avoid Maalox when I was having heartburn and bloating during my first pregnancy, but that was almost 20 years ago! Definitely consult with your doctor before making a decision, it’s not that safe to take the advice of strangers on a blog!
